I Will Never Be Poor || Hive Naija Weekly Prompt Wk 08
The day I said to myself, I will never be broke again in my life, can be traced back to when I was in school at the 200 level in a higher institution
Back then, I and my cousin stayed in the same hostel, and she was such a social person that all the social activities I engaged in were through her. One of her friends invited her to a very big occasion outside the school campus and I asked how we intended to get to the venue because it was quite a distance He informed the guy who invited her and he told us not to worry that he will pick us up
This guy works for the S.A to governor of Osun state in Nigeria; note the party was S.A daughter's wedding, you can imagine how elaborate the wedding would be—this was why my cousin was so eager to go to that party so she could network and get a good connection to her business. If only this decision could be reversed, I would never forget the shame and disgrace. You can't imagine or guess what could have happened that day. Let's keep going down the lane.
So this guy never informed his boss that he would be carrying his friends. Hmm, remembering the situation while I’m typing it still makes me feel bad because even if I had all the money in the world, I wouldn't treat an animal as trash, not to even think of treating a human like me as a nobody.
He called and told us to meet him at a particular junction and strictly told us not to keep them waiting because they were moving in a convoy, so obviously we would be in one of the cars, not necessarily the one the S.A. would be inside, but it was the other way around; the guy was the S.A. in his car while we were waiting at the bus stop, a very nice tinted car packed beside us, obvious the guy we were excepting. We entered the car and greeted the big man. He answered grumpily, but we were not bothered because that is how big men like to show that they are big.
We were inside the car, behaving ourselves, and heading to the venue. You should trust women. We dressed to our best look, looking so elegant that no man could resist a second.
All of a sudden, the S.A. was cranky and told the guy
'' What rubbish are you performing with me? You could have gotten a cab for your friends, What do you want my family to say? So please, your guests can't follow me to the venue; get them a cab''.
and he instructed the driver to pack the car and told us to come down without any apologies.
We were shocked and embarrassed; we felt the ground should open and swallow us! Does it mean that we are not presentable or that we are not up to standard? Or maybe he felt we were hook-up girls (call girls) and he doesn't want his family to think he was the one hooking us up.
We stood at that junction for a few minutes Dumbfounded tears rolled down my cheek At that moment, thousands of thoughts were running through my head, and I said to myself, Nobody will ever ridicule me like this again, and I must be someone to ''GREAT, SUCCESSFUL and VALUE''.
I took a step into the corporate world after school to strive to get a collar job, and I dived into the ICT sphere where I could get to meet prestigious people through company product presentations to clients who are interested in their product. This has really been working for me. I have gone to different great personnel gatherings, gotten a lot of business cards, and made big connections.
Please strive hard and make money so that you, and especially your children, won't be ridiculed
This is my response to Hive Naija's weekly prompt.
Na wa o, I can imagine the kind of embarrassment you must have felt that day.
No No No, that was too much. I for just go back house and sleep while thinking about what happened
It's so sad how those "so called rich" people always thinks they are demi-gods all because they are privileged to be born into a wealthy family.
Wealth that most of their families probably got off the backs of hard-working masses. (Olorun a ri ejo da )
I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. By God's grace, we will make it in this life.
#dreemerforlife
That was sooo embarrassing. Like after preparing for the big wedding, you and your cousin were asked out of the car???
That's just one thing about rich people. They feel like they are on top of the world, the most important people in the universe.
At least, the Mr. big man would have allowed you guys to reach the venue and then after the party , you guys can find your way home.
Well, the good thing is that you learnt something from the incident. You made a decision to work hard in life and you are working towards achieving that.
#Dreemerforlife.
Wait. Did you later went for the event? I wouldn't if it was me. Can you imagine? Some people change at the blink of money in their possession and they don't mind thrashing anyone without blinking their eyes. So unfair. Money is good and we must strive hard in the right way to make money. #dreemport
