CLUB AND SPADES by Okoye Matilda

He sat on the edge of the building watching the bright red-orange sun take its leave. He had so many troubles, so many things ran through his mind all at once. Running his right hand through his long, dark hair, he let out a deep sigh and his phone rang. It was an unsaved number, he hesitated then answered with an earpiece.
"Yea", his deep husky voice bellowed.

"You gon' pay me or what, Mark"
"Who is this?" He asked angrily.
The caller laughed, which pissed Mark off.
"You tryna play games now? You owe me 800 bucks and 100 more as interest.
So I'm sure you know who the fuck I am", the caller tried to sound dangerous.
"Well, I don't have your money right now. When I do, you'll get it"
He pressed the red button.
He took another deep breath, held the rail, turned and carefully lifted his legs back to the floor.

Though it would be difficult for him to fall off because of his build, he would be caught between the rails. Still he didn't take chances, sometimes he wished he did. He wished someone would push him accidentally as he couldn't bring himself to jump off a 130ft tall building.
Getting up he looked at his worn out watch, 26 minutes to get himself to the club. He took a shower and put on his suit. 11 minutes more. He locked his door and ran down the stairs to the elevator.

On the sixth floor, a man joined him. His face was hidden under his black top hat. Mark noticed the top of his cane carried a sculpture, creature he couldn't make out. It seemed like a rat but with wings and had scales on its tail like a dragon. Mark felt a bit unsafe, his hairs were standing. A feeling he rarely had. The atmosphere in the elevator seemed to change. Mark adjusted his stance, like he was waiting for the man to charge at him.
They both got off at the ground floor. It was the longest 35 seconds of his life. Outside, he kicked his Yamaha XSR900 to life and put on his helmet. As he rode to the club, he couldn't stop thinking about the strange man he met in the elevator.

The strange man that made Mark felt unsafe in the elevator could be the caller or what did you think? Well, it was a good thing the man didn't make any unsuspicious move at him.
