WHAT IS REHABILITATION CENTER MEANT FOR?
Rehabilitation is one of the major reason why criminals are taking to prison. That is the main reason why it is there in the first place. But the question we should ask is - if prison is meant for rehabilitation, then why do we have more criminals in the society and so many of them have been to prison? So, the question is it doing the right work? Have they been rehabilitated? Do they charge when they are taking to prison? I doubt. I don't think that prison can correct these harden criminals. Something else needs to be done before they can change.
There is no excuse for doing something wrong. Ignorant is not an excuse. Some criminals don't even care anymore if you want to take them to prison. They are customers already there. Let me take us through something that happened to me in the past. Maybe it will throw more light to the topic of discussion.
A random number just called me one day and when I picked the person insisted that he knows me and that I am his girlfriend who don't want to talk to him. After a long argument he decided to agree that it was a wrong number. We dropped the call. The next day he called again and said that he just want to apologize for the previous day. He further asked that we become friends which I gave in. From that moment he tries to call me once in two or three days. After some weeks of constant calling he told me that he had a terrible accident and the other person that he hit with his car died instantly. I sympathized with him and we kept talking and he told me that he has been taken to prison because of what happened. I then told him to contact his family members so that they can come and help him out of that place. He told me that they have tried their best but nothing good has come out of it. I felt really sorry for him that I decided to go and see him when I traveled him to see my people. Friends, do you know what I discovered. This guy has been in that prison for a very long time and has been doing same with other people. He will just Dial any number and start calling. To my greatest surprise the prison Warden helped him to achieve this inside of prison. Even before I came there he has discussed with the people working there to pretend as though he was just brought to prison just to convince me that he was a good person. After all that I noticed there I left before I will be in trouble. He noticed that I have discovered all their schemes. He tried to call me but I left and never went back there again. I blocked me and I can't reach him till today. This is a criminal who was sopposed to be going through a rehabilitation.
I don't believe in the kind of prison we operate in this country. If there should be corrections, then it should be done properly. The criminals should be treated as criminals. Check our prison and you will still see the prisoners smoking. Who gets it for them? That is a very good question, but I don't have the accurate answer to that. I believe that we need to do these few things if we need to correct then:
Disconnect them from their old friends who are bad influence.
They should not be allowed to buy what will not benefit them.
No one working in the prison house should be allowed to buy them any substance that is harmful.
They should learn a trade there that will benefit them when they are out of the correctional facility.
Schools should be created for them so that some of them can start schooling there and maybe it may change their mind set.
The word of God and prayers should be given to them constantly.
Finally, correctional center is meant for anyone who breaks the law, not just for the poor masses who can't defend themselves.
