The family that eats together, stays together.

Welcome back to my blog for week 177 episode one. For this week's edition 1 is all about family that eats together. This is a culture already in Africa. When there is love and care in a family, most times you see them eating together.

In Africa, we see it as a way of communicating with the whole family especially during dinner. That is when no one is rushing to go to work or see a friend or even go for a business meeting.

Dinner time is special for my family and we all love it when we come together to eat our meals. We bring up issues that concerns us and discuss. Sometimes there are problems that we could not solve alone, but during dinner such problems are solve by maybe one or two suggestions that will be of help.

In my family we are just seven. The father, (my husband) myself and the five children God blessed us with. Though right now we are up to nine because we have two adopted lovely children living with us. We have made it a culture to eat together. We started it when they were all kids. When everyone is at hope we all go to our dinner table to eat together. It has been like that for years and it is so lovely when we all come together to eat.

A DIFFERENT CASE NOW.
Now that they are all grown up, things have taken a different shape. We are just three of us at home: my husband, myself and my last boy. Even the adopted children are not always at home. I believe that it is time to let everyone go and face their future. Make something good for themselves. Obi can never remain a boy forever. Immediately the started secondary school, we started missing that moment when we eat together. Everyone has grown now and it is as though we have gone back to the moment when we were just married and still young. Those days we just make a little food and no one to help us finish it. I was always complaining that we can't finish all the food that I made. Hmmm! When they started coming and also growing, we started eating together and I always love it when I see my children eat together with me. Today I just eat together with my husband and sometimes the food is not sweet, not because I didn't add enough spice, but because the house is now scanty. I don't enjoy it because I love it when I see my children eating. Even if I don't have what to eat and my children have eating I will be so happy.

MY OBSERVATION
I have noticed that most families that enjoy eating together lives in peace most times. You hardly see people what are not in peace eating together. I believe that we should practice it more often because it helps us have time to discuss about things that concerns the whole family.

It is a pity that most family do not observe this tradition any longer. The African family style of living together is tied to eating together.
But as Africans who have this knowledge, we can revive the tradition.

Yea, we miss those times when everything was done together and because everyone has now grown up, such practice starts to fade but we still try to inculcate such to keep the bond alive. Families that eat together stay together.

It's not just a time of bonding together but also a time you sit as a family to enjoy the feeling of family . We still keep this tradition alive in my home as my parents love to for us all to eat together whenever my siblings or the grandchildren visit . It's sure a nice atmosphere
