Making social media a core course in our tertiary institution.

Social media is one of the most complex for a lot of people who are trying to make use of it. Bringing it up as a course in the university will be a good one. This is not something we can shy away from because everyone is using it. I believe that teaching it as one of the courses in the university will help curb some evil going on in the social media.

When we don't know the value of a thing, abuse is inevitable. So many youths are busy doing all manner of rubbish online because they were not properly taught. If someone gave me a very good orientation about what they are doing. Some just bought phone and get sim card and begin to do what they think is correct. Is someone took time to teach them the right thing to do. Maybe it might even help in reducing the Yahoo business we see our youths doing today.

Maybe using myself as a very good example will be of great help. When first got an Android phone I didn't know what to do with it. Not knowing what to do made me make a lot of mistakes. And to make matters worse most of the people around me are all novice in that area. So, I had my phone for so many months just answering calls. Sometimes even to pick a call was a problem for me because the phone can enter a phone lock and I don't know how to remove it. Another serious thing for me was that I don't know how to send a text message. Sometimes I even need people to help me check if someone has sent a message or not. It was that bad. I made so many mistakes trying to know the right thing to do.

There is no way I could have known what to do if I wasn't taught. Maybe if I had a student who learnt it in school or who offered it as a course in school, maybe it will not get to that. You know the white's are already used to it. They start using it from childhood. We that we are not used to it just got it halfway and start using it without anyone teaching us about it. You can not compare the two of them. The same thing with social media. Some of these civilized countries or developed countries so to say are far ahead of us. We need it as course in the tertiary institution. Not just as a course, but as one of the core courses that every student must learn.

This will help us use it the right way, achieve something good with it. Because I know that there are hundred and one opportunities for our youths in the social media to get job. I know of some people who got their jobs via the social media. They did not carry files around and begin to go to offices searching for jobs. But just in the comfort of their home through the social media they applied for a job, got the job and some are still doing the work right inside their home. All these opportunities and more are what we can get via the social media if we will be guided the right way.
