RE: Tower of Fantasy first impressions on PS5

The first glance at the gameplay reminded me of back when I played PSO and PSO2...which is pretty cool, though the HUD and overworld also reminds me of Genshin (as much as it sort of annoys me to have that as the default comparison, but it does look quite similar if not trying to capitalize on its popularity)...but it is pretty cool that you can customize your own character though like a proper MMO. Was pretty funny to see presets for Tanjiro, Levi, Itachi...it sure does make some sort of sense to see them there when they are community made presets after all, which in itself is a VERY cool feature (though it would suck if you couldn't save your own lol).
It is sort of odd feeling that while this would have been a neat visual style to see back when no one was doing it...so many games are doing the "anime cel-shaded characters in not so cel-shaded overworld MMO" thing because of how Genshin exploded when released.
Would be really cool to see a game go all the way with that style (like Hi-Fi Rush did; seems dope but don't think it might run on my PC, I can just about play Tekken 7 at 60fps with everything in low), but at least for those online type games, I think the only one I would really play again/try to go back would be the Phantasy Star Online games if only because of nostalgia and the simplicity factor (PSO1's combat is quite simple compared to every other entry, but at least wouldn't need to track stuff like stats and equipment mumbo jumbo lol).
I used to love Fantasy Star Universe on Xbox 360. It was one of the first MMOs that I ever played and that was the main reason I was so fascinated by it. Heck, it may have actually been the very first one I ever played, I think it was 2006 and I was 13 or 14 years old.
I think saying it's a cross between Phantasy Star and Genshin is an excellent observation. I think you are spot on with that.
Another game in this style that was fairly new and pretty cool was Scarlet Nexus, not an MMO though.
