Dump The Old(And Embrace The New)

They say you shouldn’t fix something unless it’s broken. Well... I’ve been driving an old Audi, bought with Ampleforth airdrop cash, for a bit over four years, but last night, that Audi A4 gave up on me.

It was not broken, I just had to sell it...

I had it listed for sale for about a month and got quite a few offers. I was asking 3000 euros for the 2004 old fart when I first put it on the online market, but yesterday it was down to 2400 euros when a buddy called and said he’s buying it.

He sold his BMW X5 and needed a solid all-rounder for his local business, and my car fit the bill perfectly. So, I took the cash, handed him the keys, and as of today, I’m carless. It feels like something’s missing, but damn, it’s also like I’m not bleeding money every day anymore.

Owning a car is pretty much a must these days, but it’s also a pain in the ass. I was dropping about 150 euros on diesel every month, a few hundred euros a year on spare parts, and insurance was eating up another 300 euros annually.

Still, I needed a car. Not for commuting or anything like that, but I needed one all the same... I’m not rushing to buy a new one anytime soon, though. Not until I land a job, which probably won’t happen until next year.

By the end of August, I’ll be moving to Austria for some German language classes, which’ll take about three months. After that, I’ll figure out what’s next for work. Once I’m pulling a paycheck, I’ll start hunting for a car—probably a French one, like a Renault.

They’re cheaper to buy and maintain than the German ones, pretty reliable, and easy on the fuel budget. So, yeah, I’m kinda ditching the old (me, car, environment) and embracing the new. It doesn’t necessarily have to be better, but here’s hoping it is.

That’s about it from my side. Wishing you all a great day, and I’ll catch up with you next time.

Thanks for your attention,
Adrian

"Owning a car is pretty much a must these days, but it’s also a pain in the ass."
Sure is! Having trouble this week with my X1 from 2014, blue smoke.
Could be the valve seals.

I kinda feel the lack of convenience of not owning one lately...
