A small Chinese shrine Photography
A small Chinese shrine is usually built side the road or in front of a house. It is a red colored temple-like structure with a roof that looks like tiles and is decorated with golden crafts. The roof surface features a design of two golden fish, commonly used as a symbol of prosperity and good fortune.
It is a small shrine known as Shentangba Tuti Kong which is very popular among the Chinese community.Such shrines especially common in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia Singapore Thailand and Indonesia.It is mainly built worship the local land deity or protector of business.
A censer can be seen inside the shrine, containing ashes previous incense burning. Burning incense sticks is a traditional ritual in Chinese culture to honor ancestors and seek the blessings of the gods.There are also two small candlesticks and a glass of water, which are usually symbols of purity.A plastic bottle can be seen next to this shrine, which may have been originally used for worship such as water for washing hands or as an offering deity. A small step outside is waterlogged, possibly from recent rain.
Such small shrines are mainly established for the family financial prosperity protection and good fortune. Especially traders place it in front of their shop or business, so that their business will be successful with the blessings of the deity. Sometimes food, fruit or tea is placed there, which is part of the offering to the deity.
Behind the picture is an old wooden house where clothes are left to dry. It indicates that the place of worship is located in front of a residential area. There are wire fences around, which can be used to secure the site.
The color, architecture and worship style of these places of worship are deeply related to Chinese culture. It is not just a reflection of religious beliefs, but an important part of cultural heritage. To the local people it symbolizes spirituality and is associated with daily life.
Finally this small shrine is indicative community beliefs, traditions and culture. It is not only a religious place, but also a symbol of peace, security and prosperity.
