Die-Cast Buses | Blocks of Metal | A Different Kind of Love

What Am I Talking About?

I had the blessing of getting die-cast metals in my childhood in the late 80s, and most of them were Hot Wheels. Back then, every exam that I used to top, Dad would gift me Hotwheels. Then there was my mom, who would sneak a few bucks for me to get a few more wheels. So, that’s how the liking for die-cast cars, buses, and trucks grew.

One thing that hasn’t changed between then and now is my love for die-cast buses and trucks. Sure, I do love cars, but given a choice, I will go for trucks and buses. I don’t know what childhood pleasures I am still living. Is it the weight of the metal buses and trucks? Or is it the fun of holding a chunky piece of metal in my tiny hands? I may not know, but I love it nonetheless. Even now.

So, while we are at the die-cast buses, let me talk about a collection that I recently purchased. You've got a glimpse of it in the above picture.

Die Cast Buses | Heavy Metal

The last time I looked at die-cast models was when I was still gifting them to my five-year-old nephew. They then moved further away from my place, and with that, my need to look at die-casts. That was fourteen years ago. And then I moved into a die-cast-less world. That was until I happened to land on a site called Etsy for no reason.

And then the old times were revived. I saw a collection of old die-cast bus models on sale from owners. Mind you, these were old models and hence closer to how it looked back during my childhood. There was this one specific collection of eight buses by a Japanese seller. It was a Tomica collection from a time when Tomica was still made in Japan. 😊 (Or that’s what I think.)

Let’s look at the collection, then?

Die Cast Buses | Heavy Metal | The Collection

This collection was more of a 1:128 scale. It was tiny enough and metallic enough for my liking. And on the day of the scale model's arrival, I was quite excited, just like childhood days.

These were the buses. This is Bus 1.

The older look is obvious. Like I said, these were the older ones from another person’s collection.

This bus has some moving parts. The door opens and closes.

Here is another one with moving parts. The back door of this van/bus. I liked it.

And That’s the Collection!

I quite enjoyed buying this one. I am not sure what started this interest, but I guess I will be collecting some more. Whenever I buy new sets, I will share the updates over here. Etsy is good, but the postal and courier charges were twice the cost of the eight buses. That was the only downer.

This time, I will get some new ones, as well. Let’s see. You will see the updates soon. 😊
