Tickle Me Thursdays - Dry January is over

An Idea is born

All of us regular Rorys and Daily Deborahs on Hive who try to post every day or every other day can sometimes struggle to think of something to post about.

I mean journalists and authors whose profession and living relies upon their creative writing can even struggle to put words down on paper sometimes. The words can sometimes choke in the pen and nothing comes to mind or whatever does come to mind doesn't seem worthy or good enough.

It's not a nice feeling and I reckon that we've all been there, especially given that most of us are not writers by trade. I'm an engineer and although I loved English and Literature in school, I went down a different road academically and Telecommunications is the industry that I now work in.

So in my spare time which is fleeting to say the least, and I have 30 to 60 minutes to dedicate to Hive, I want to get into a state of flow as quickly as possible and get those words and thoughts down on paper as quickly as possible and post it. Otherwise another day passes with no post and I let a few years to go by without posting much at all and that was opportunity lost.

Anyone that knows me on here will know about my Three Tune Tuesday idea that is hugely popular now. I shared three songs every Tuesday and talk a little about them and invite others to do the same and with the help of brilliant sponsors, we put up a weekly prize of 11 HBI to the weekly winner.

The reason I mention Three Tune Tuesday is because it helps me to avoid writer's block, as I know that every Tuesday my post will be about Three Tune Tuesday and then every Wednesday day is the showcase and results of the prior week. Then I have detlev's #BeerSaturday covering Saturdays and when mushrooms are around here in Ireland, I have @ewkaw's #FungiFriday.

My latest idea is going to cover of Thursdays for me and if any of guys fancy getting on board too, just use the tag #ticklemethursday and if I get time, I'll come and find your post and hopefully get a good laugh.

Now I have the following days post ideas locked in, which will help me a lot. So my week suddenly looks much easier to plan out, with only Monday and Sunday requiring me to come up with something to post about, which could be about Food, Sport, Technology, Cryptocurrency, Investments, My Dogs, My Walks etc.

  • Monday -
  • Tuesday - THREE TUNE TUESDAY
  • Wednesday - THREE TUNE TUESDAY SHOWCASE
  • Thursday - TICKLE ME THURSDAY
  • Friday - FUNGI FRIDAY
  • Saturday - BEER SATURDAY
  • Sunday -

What is Tickle Me Thursday?

Like Three Tune Tuesday, it's all in the name and hopefully Tickle Me Thursday is obvious and people will see that it's exactly what it says on the tin. You go to the #ticklemethursday tag to get a laugh, the shits and giggles so to speak.

For me it's going to be one really funny meme or funny photo that's relevant to the given week or a funny story or thing that happened in my life or a joke that I find really funny, ranging from the long story telling jokes to short snappy one liners.

So there you have it, Tickle Me Thursdays is born!

This week's Laugh

As ye know I did Dry January last year and again this year. For those unfamiliar with the concept it means zero alcohol for the month of January.

During January, one of the guys sent this one onto me and oh how I laughed!! 🤣🤣

Thanks as always for stopping by everyone.

Peace Out

Great daily plans! I'm working on some myself right now. Great joke, I loved The Muppets as a kid!

Tickle me Thursday is a great idea man! Also, I'm in the same boat, I want to keep up the daily posting because the last time I broke the cycle after about 6 months, I didn't end up writing anything for about 4 or so months until getting back in the flow once more.

Having the week planned out like that is great, and if you're looking for something to fill up another day or two, Ecency-Star Releases A Prompt Every Saturday For Us To Enter Something For. This week is about sustainable practices, each prompt is different and are usually something good to think and talk about. Also, there are Zapfic, which I really enjoy writing.

If I had seen this post sooner I could have entered something for it, but I'll save the story for next Thursday instead.

Cheers dude and ouch also, on that extended writer's block. I am the exact same, if I lay off for more than a couple of days, it can be tough trying to come up with the words.. So the daily topics for certain days certainly helps.

Nice one on those other suggestions too man, I will check them out next time I can't think of anything to say.

We've just witnessed the birth of a new trend! 😃

Next week I'll see if I can join in with something that's fun, or that makes someone other than me laugh!

Thanks for creating a daily goal in users, and that turns out to be an excellent "escape" for when inspiration doesn't abound!

Cheers!

Post scriptum: Although my New Year's Eve was as "old school" as possible (I went to bed at 10:30 and didn't wake up until January 1st), I ended up laughing at your meme!

Cheers

Nice one @xrayman and thanks for stopping by. I'll keep an eye out for that post if you get around to it and no harm to tag me too to make sure I see it.

Yep, my new years was fairly uneventful too, just the wife and I watching telly and then watching the Big Ben fireworks on BBC.

You're a reservoir of interesting, fun, interactive and engaging stories, so it just goes to show that it can happen us all. The flow can just stop and nothing comes, but I guess that's just life and when it flows by sure to fill your buckets full to the brim!

There is one thing that I can assure you of with a clear conscience. You can "go pregnant" with an idea or a first sentence for longer than a human pregnancy can ever last. And maybe it never comes to paper?
A post every day? That would be the ultimate punishment for me, as the posts I force into my head usually turn out to be "miscarriages".
It gets even worse when humour is supposed to form the framework. Total damage is inevitable.
Anyone who manages to do it anyway - they deserve my respect.

You have a way with words though and writing it seems to me is your craft, so just trust the pen and let it flow.

There's no denying that I have a lot of fun playing around with words. But it is also undeniable that thoughts and words are having their fun at my expense, sending me into a mental carousel for half an hour over one sentence 😉 .
But every now and then it works: example

Nice one man, that's really cool that your published. I love English in school, but I loved Maths and Physics too and ended up going down that road to Engineering career. I don't regret it, but my creative side doesn't get enough chance to be expressed in my current role, but the salary, pension and percs are good and I like the job, so all good in the hood really I suppose..

It’s definitely a good thing to have a theme for the day when posting! I usually do monochrome Monday, three tune Tuesday and Wednesday walk. The rest of the week is open for various things going on in the brain but I agree it’s good to have something to fall back on in a way so that you can get the content theme decided, just need to get the actual content figured out!

I thought by dry January you meant you gave up alcohol. I’ve largely given it up myself at least for now. I’m not able to recover from it the way I used to and wake up not feeling great hahaha and when little kiddos that doesn’t fly, their energy doesn’t take a break!

Ya man, that is what I meant, I gave it up for the month of Jan. It felt great too I must say, not that I go out much anymore anyway, maybe once a month if I'm lucky, but I do enjoy a few IPAs or Guinness or Red wine on a Friday night once kids are gone to bed, but never enough to give me a head the next day.

You're similar to me with your posting certain subjects on certain days so, it defo helps to not have to think of a topic and just tear into a post, as like you, I have feck all free time, so need to be speedy Gonzalez to get everything done!
