From Your Heart, They Are Your Brother's Keeper

There is an adage that says, "Be your brother's keeper". This is not just limited to your brother; in fact, it is not a saying that is just for your relatives, but for those close to you. Most people who are close to you would, one way or the other, know who you are, although not in detail. Helping them out when in need or helping them out to do one thing or the other is simply very important to humanity. We are humans and should help our fellows, no matter the situation. No one knows when it will be your turn if you fail to help your neighbors.

I have this passion to help when required. I remembered, some time ago, I hung my clothes outside. That day I had to go on a little journey that took me 4 hours to come back. I did not tell anyone I hung my clothes outside. My kids were not at home as they had gone to school. Meanwhile, my landlord's children also hung their clothes on the next rope. After a few hours, the weather changed, and I was not bothered about my clothes, as I knew they would help me pack my belongings. I managed my time so well, even though most people were running home to pack their clothes, I was still gallant and without shaking. When I was done with what I was doing, I left for my abode. Getting home, I was so surprised to see my clothes still in that same spot I hung them, dropping water. I was angry and was talking hell, but then I had nothing to do as I did not inform them to help me out. Besides, they did not send me a message to dry my clothes outside.

There was a day when they hung their clothes outside and were very close to my surroundings. They all went out. I was the only one at home. When it started to rain, I decided to help them pack their clothes. I made sure I arranged them in a big pile. When they were back home, I had to carry the palette straight to their parlor.

This strongly suggested that I can't trust them or entrust something to them, but to me, I'm not like them.

Helping your neighbors is just the best, as this would turn out to be in your favor. My present neighbor is someone who does hide herself in her room. She is not used to coming out except when she wants to go to the market or to buy something outside. Even her kids are always locked indoors. Just one day, she saw me grinding fresh tomatoes and peppers. She asked me the amount, and I told her. After that day, she began to send me to buy for her anytime it's a major market day. She later found me to be interesting and someone without problems, unlike some other people. She confessed to me the reasons she was always remaining indoors, which I understood quite well.

Minding your business can never favor you, but it may turn out to be a disadvantage to your path. It's good to be good and good to help when needed. Most times, when you mind your business, things might go so wrong in your path. This is when pride comes in. “How can I mingle myself with someone like this person?” This is total evidence that pride rules in you.

Most times, if an emergency comes up, I bet I would trust my kids with my neighbor, since I have found her fascinating after that day she started talking to me. I discovered that she was fun and not who I thought she was.

We live in a world of minding your business, but then, in this case, it would be so palatable to mind your business being neighbors. Some neighbors are wicked and would want to harm you if you leave your kids with them. They may want to take advantage of doing something bad to your kids. This is to some extent to which some neighbors can go. Although I can leave mine with my neighbor, and so can she.
