In 2002, he was elected President of India, a decision that was highly commendable, as a scientist holding such a high position demonstrates the greatness of the nation. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is said to have lived a life of simplicity. Even while living in Rashtrapati Bhavan, he maintained a simple life and maintained a simple disposition.
