As you talked about old times, fast food was not available at that time and the normal food we used to eat used to be pure but nowadays even the food we eat daily is adulterated. This can be very dangerous for our health. Flour, pulses, vegetables, rice, all are adulterated. People may also get sick because of these, so they do not eat anything outside. This is the reason why the life span of people is decreasing. As you have cholesterol problem, I will also suggest that more than medicines, you should focus on exercise and food restrictions. This thing is more effective than medicines and these medicines have so many side effects.
