The 2020 Something Christmas Holidays

I can’t believe it’s 2nd December and I haven’t even thought of setting up a Christmas tree. I remember how many years ago, we would wake up on 1st December and see the Christmas tree set up and all we had to do was decorate it. But now, my mind is so occupied with many things. Sigh.
I love December and this particular month makes me so happy. There’s just something about it and I can’t fully explain. But if I were to trace it, I would probably find myself back in my childhood days. December was that month where the atmosphere was always filled with joy and it still is.
Even with that, if I were to choose Christmas either as an adult or a kid, I’ll definitely choose as an adult. Yeah, I heard you scream “why?”. Let me tell you. Growing up, I didn’t really experience all those serious gifting on Christmas. The presents and all. My dad would always say Christmas should be everyday, you never know when will be your last day.
So as a kid, Christmas wasn’t so special. I mean the only thing that made Christmas “Christmas” was the tree and jingle bell or silent night here and there. Because we did a lot of “Christmas celebrations” even on normal days. I remember how my dad came home one day in the middle of the year with presents. I got a whole microphone and speaker set because I liked singing. My brothers also got things they liked.

So as I said earlier, Christmas wasn’t “cool”. To be honest , I didn’t even understand why people used to be so pumped about Santa and christmas presents all. But that was because of my situation and it’s true what they say: When you get something all the time, you fail to see its importance.
But now that I’m an adult? It’s been different. We all know how busy we get throughout the year. In fact, I don’t remember celebrating anything seriously this year, whether Independence Day, Easter or anything. And with presents, I got them only on my birthday. You know what that means?
Now, Christmas presents are a big deal to me. When I look back, I realize that I definitely prefer all the 2020 something Christmas Holidays to the older ones. I mean, I became an adult way before that time but that was when I started seeing the essence of this season and truly celebrating it.
Last year Christmas, I made it a point to experience detty december. I went for a concert, went out with friends, went to a lot of places. Some I wanted to, others, not at all.
And I’ll never forget the experience.
So I really don’t mind celebrating Christmas as an adult even if it means no more Christmas shoes and socks and hat. I am genuinely excited about how Christmas is now that I’m an adult. And I love that I now understand how special this season is.
