My Little Wand #246

I bought this crochet hook in 2019 for $0.048. I bought it to make a particular bralette I saw on Pinterest. I just wanted to do something to help me get busy since we were in a pandemic. Six years later and this little thing has done so much for me that I could have never imagined.

I can’t explain why and how, but this hook always helps me to create perfect works seamlessly. I have tried using so many different ones but it’s always one problem or the other. It’s either I end up struggling or making mistakes or spending days or weeks on something that’s supposed to take hours.

The other time, I was asking my mom if the kind of impact that hook has on my crochet life was just psychological, and she actually said it was real. She told me about a time when she had one particular sewing machine that did magic for her while the others were just… normal.

I’m sure I’ve said this before, but let me say it again: one of the things I love about crocheting is how therapeutic it is. But here’s something that might surprise you: no hook gives me the therapy that this little wand of mine does. Yes! I’ve tried it so many times. I realized that it always feels like a chore when I use a different crochet hook to make something.

In fact, I even did an experiment on this where I crocheted the same thing twice with my wand and a different hook. And by the time I was done using the other hook, I wasn’t excited about the result (something very unusual because I’m mostly jumping anytime I crochet something).

All these aside, I think all my favorite crochet projects were made with this hook. All of them. I’ve actually bought colors of yarn I didn’t like but managed to make really nice things from them with this hook. Oh, and before I forget, let me add this: I travel with this hook all the time. There were times this hook motivated me to do things I never thought I would do. It really just reminds me of how amazing of a crocheter I am.

As someone who’s been crocheting for 14 years, I’ve had so many hooks. So many. But I always end up with this one. For this reason, I just make it a point to send any new hook I receive from people to my little cousin who also loves crocheting. I’ve never thought about what I would do if I lost this hook, but I really pray it stays with me forever.
