Just This One Thing

I just finished speaking with a friend of mine and somewhere in the middle of the conversation, I asked her what she wanted for Christmas. She was quiet for a moment so I thought she didn’t hear me. I asked again. That was when she made me know she heard me but she was just in shock.

I was a little confused about why she was in shock and then she told me the saddest thing ever. She said ever since she got to know good and bad, she’s never been asked what she wants for Christmas. And I was actually the first person all these years to ask such a question.

To be honest, I thought she was joking so I even told her about how I’ve already received my pre Christmas present from my mom about three weeks ago. And she went like “wow”. So that was when I realized she wasn’t joking. And no, she’s not even from a poor home or anything so I was finding it hard to understand. Because if your friends won’t ask what you want for Christmas, I believe your family should.

Anyway, so we spoke about Christmas for a while then she told me what she wanted for Christmas. She also added the price and to me, I believe it means in the end, she just would appreciate being given the money. So that she could just go purchase that particular thing she wants because I could get the wrong thing for her even at the same price.

This made me conclude that almost everyone wants something for Christmas and most of them are things you’d have to buy with money. And in as much as I like being thoughtful, I really hate to disappoint people in the process of trying to do the right thing. So maybe, just maybe, the best gift to give people is money, especially in this economy.

Sometimes, you might thinkoh money is not really a thoughtful gift” but then, the problem it could actually solve in someone’s life is very significant.

Personally, something that I’ve discovered about myself this year is how things of my childhood bring me happiness. So if Santa is hearing me, I would like a camera. Not the real ones. There are these toy cameras that show a lot of beautiful things through its lens and I have always been in love with it and I want to relive that moment. So Mr S. wink wink.
