Charity For Show
Already, I find it very weird that people extend support to others with cameras behind their acts. Like how we always see various charity foundations posting videos of their outreaches.
But I found out that it’s actually the only way to show people that they are truly doing what they say they do. It’s also another way to solicit for funds to help the needy. And the other unintended impact is people being touched to also help others on their own. And when I think of these reasons, they are very valid.
But what I don’t understand is people documenting the help they give to their relatives. Today at work, there was this story of a man, an accomplished man, who built a house for his mother and made a whole documentary about it. I’m sure you’re thinking there’s nothing wrong with that. Wait for it.
He made the documentary and posted it on social media to make it look like it was charity work. And of course, people praised him for his good works until someone came to say in the comment section that the woman in the video was actually her biological mother, whom he had abandoned for years. And recently he just came to the village out of the blue to build for her, only for him to now make it look like she’s a charity case.
I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt and just assume there was a part of the story we all probably didn’t know. And then you know what happened next? We were told that after building the house for his mom, he abandoned her again. And since she’s too old to work, her church members were the ones feeding her.
It got me curious as to why he would even build a house in the first place only to neglect his responsibilities as a child. And then I got the shock of my life. He actually used the documentary to enter a competition for charity foundations, and his was about providing for widows. "Angry" is an understatement. I could feel my heart beat so fast after finding out the intention behind his actions.
Sometimes I analyze certain things and just wonder how people think. Do it to anyone. Your friends, your siblings, but not the one who brought you into this world. Come on! They said charity begins at home but in this case, it’s obvious that even the charity done at home is for show. Let me just end it here before my emotions take over again.
