Hello, my friends.

Less than two weeks ago, the eastern part of my country suffered the onslaught and destruction of Hurricane Melissa, leaving thousands homeless. Several friends and I have been collecting donations to help those affected.

The Baire and Contramaestre areas, among many others, are still without electricity and inaccessible by road. Although there were no fatalities, unfortunately, the hurricane ripped the roofs off almost every house in the area and, in some cases, completely destroyed them.

These are some photos of those cases.

Some of these victims, mostly women, are our colleagues here at Hive, whose names I won't mention to protect their privacy.

One of the victims, from Contramaestre, lost his family home, where his grandparents, parents, and siblings had grown up alongside him. A sturdy house, but one that couldn't withstand Melissa's onslaught. They were able to salvage some belongings that had been stored in another house, where, luckily, they had evacuated, bracing for the worst.

And the worst did happen.

Thank God no lives were lost.

But material losses hurt, and they are necessary too.

Another family, where a mother of three lives, lost their roof and some belongings that got wet or were blown away along with Melissa. Several meters of roof tiles were also lost, and at that moment there were more empty spaces than roofs above their house.



Therefore, to help them, I will be accepting donations on Hive or HBD to deliver the money in cash or via bank transfer. The proceeds from this post will also go to them. Please include "Hurricane Melissa" in the memo so I can identify you.
I will update the HBD and Hive collection and post a record of everything received and collected. I will also be accepting donations of supplies and anything else you'd like to send in Havana until the 19th of this month.

136 HBDs have been received, 113 sent, 23 pending.

These were exchanged on @hivecuba.p2p at an exchange rate of 450 CUP per HBD (a round 1dolar), That gives a total amount of 50,850.00 CUP. Divided between the two houses, it comes to 25,425.00 CUP each.


The transfers were successfully completed, helping them resolve some of their current problems and providing the necessary support that, thanks to you, is very welcome at this time.

And sincere gratitude is never lacking. We wish we could do more.

We're counting on you to help those in need. It's time to show solidarity.

Hola, amigas mías.

Hace menos de quince días el oriente de mi país sufrió los embates y la destrucción del Huracán Melissa, dejando a miles de damnificados. Varias amistades y yo hemos estado reuniendo donaciones para ayudar puntualmente a varios de ellos.

Aún la zona de Baire y Contramaestre, entre muchas otras, se encuentran sin electricidad y sin acceso por transporte terrestre. Aunque no se sufrieron pérdidas de vida, lamentablemente, el huracán se llevó techos de casi todas las casas de la zona y, en otros casos, les tumbó la casa.
Estas son alguna fotos de esos casos.

Algunas de esas personas damnificadas, la mayoría mujeres, son colegas nuestros aquí en Hive, cuyos nombres no diré para no dañar su dignidad.

Uno de los damnificados, de Contramaestre, perdió la casa familiar, donde habían crecido sus abuelos, padres y sus hermanos junto a él.
Casa fuerte, pero que no resistió la embestida de Melissa. Pudieron salvar algunas cosas que habían sido resguardadas en otra casa, donde, por suerte, se habían evacuado, esperando lo peor.
Y lo peor sucedió.
Gracias a Dios y no se perdió ninguna vida.
Pero lo material duele y es necesario también.

Otra familia, donde vive una madre de tres niños, perdió el techo y algunas pertenencias que se mojaron o se fueron volando junto a Melissa. Pero varios metros de tejas también se perdieron y en ese momento había más espacios vacíos que de techo, sobre su casa.

Por tanto, para poder ayudarlos, estaré recibiendo donaciones en Hive o HBD para llevarles el dinero en efectivo o por transferencia bancaria.
El acumulado de esta publicación también será destinado a ellos. Por favor, en el Memo poner: Huracán Melissa, para identificarlas.
El HBD y Hive recaudado lo cambiaré y dejaré evidencias de todo lo recibido y recaudado en un post. También estaré recibiendo donaciones de insumos y lo que deseen enviar en La Habana, hasta el día 19 de este mes.

Se han recibido 136 HBD.

Se cambiaron en @hivecuba.p2p al cambio de 450 cup por HBD. Eso da un monto total de 50850.00 CUP. Dividido entre las dos casas toca a razón de 25425.00 CUP por cada una.

Las transferencias fueron realizadas exitosamente, para que fueran resolviendo parte de sus problemas actuales y tuvieran esa ayuda necesaria que, gracias a ustedes, vienen de lo más bien en estos momentos.

Y el agradecimiento sincero nunca falta. Ojalá y pudiéramos hacer más.
