Wild Child: Movie Review

Hi movie lovers, I'm Abeegail, welcome to my blog. Happy New Year Hivers, I'm glad we all made it to 2026. It's my first time posting in this community, hope i can share my heartfelt opinions on movie and shows that tug my heartstrings. I'm a horror lover but, since it's the New Year i want to try something different, I'll be talking about "Wild Child" which is a different genre than my favorite genre. I've watched this movie a long time and I don't know why I've been putting off reviewing it. I saw part of this movie on a Facebook reel and I found it intriguing. "Wild Child" is an old movie, it was released in 2008.

Wild Child follows Poppy Moore (Emma Roberts) a rich, spolit, teenager, living in Malibu. She is wild, rebellious and sharp-tongued. She lives for parties, power and pushing people away, as she tries to overcome the grief of losing her mother. But Poppy being Poppy takes things to far, which leads to her father shipping her to a boarding school in England. At Abbey Mount, she's lost and out of place. The posh accent, uniform and zero cell service. She stuck in a place where no one falls for her Malibu drama.
From day one she makes it clear that she has no intention to stay and plans to get away as soon as she can, but she starts to connect with her roommate and the five of them create tight bond not built on popularity or status but vulnerability and mutual understanding.

One of the major themes that did not really seem like it was the loss of Poppy's mum. The loss was what provoked the recklessness and wildness, her fear of emotional intimacy, and her need to be in control. The school ends up being the first place where she finally lets her walls down and starts to heal. One thing I also find interesting was the love interest and rivals in this movie. The love interest was Freddie, the headmistress son, I loved how they didn't centre the whole movie on him saving her or fixing her. He liked her for whatever she was. As for the rival, Harriet, I love her character, although she is the villain. She is used to being in control in Abbey Mount but with the presence of a new girl who is not ready to conform She feels threatened. She tries to foil Poppy on every side, especially as Poppy has the attention of Freddie. Harriet almost succeed but Poppy proved she was more than the mess she thought she was.

Underneath the glitter, lipstick and shiny dress is a movie that shows what teen grief can look like. It shows that not all wild and rebellious kids are bad kids, they are just kids that are finding it hard to process what they are going through. It's alsoabout messy friendships, identity crises, the ache of missing someone who’s gone, and figuring out how to grow without letting go of who you are. Although the movie might be a cliche and predictable but it's still I nice watch.

I loved this movie for the nostalgia, if you have watched it watch it again. Pls it's worth it.
It's Abeegail✨💗
