Politics is a dirty game.
Politics Is a Dirty Game.
Some people term this statement as a cliche, but in the real sense especially in some developing countries like Nigeria, it’s nothing but the reality. Politics to me is indeed a dirty game and if you can't get your hands dirty then I will say you are out of the game. Getting out of the game could be a choice of yours or you are forcefully pushed out of the game.
Politics is the act of governing a country or area by a specific group of people coming together to form parties. These parties will get into debates about who is worthy of wielding power and controlling the country for a given period.
Politics has been played since time immemorial. Though it's said that there are democratic and militant (authoritarian) regimes too. Though democracy is what we practice here in Nigeria, some other parts of the world practice the other types.
I am not the type that puts interests in politics. I don't even like to read the news because I don't see what it's worth reading it for. Most of the time news to me is like some kind of act or scene created to put fear and agony into the heart of citizens. Only a few times you might get to encounter good feedback from news updates. Mostly you will always have to listen to news that will make you annoyed, complain, and make criticism over what you shouldn’t.
Politics has a great role to play in developing a great country or nation. Politics could be the reason for the downfall of a great nation and could also be the reason some other countries have risen so high. Our leaders matter. And this is nothing more than the choice of whom we decide on. Either we choose right and enjoy or we choose wrong and enjoy too.
I remember the last election that took place last year. Everyone keeps criticizing, abusing, justifying, and judging each other on who can make the country better. Only if they knew that politicians are all the same and they are like cultists who have sworn together. They are all the same. All they are playing is just a public game and the real games are played behind the scenes where we can't see or hear. They all know what they are doing.
If you want to know what’s going on behind the scenes then you must be ready to get inducted into the game. You keep your mouth shut, and if you decide not to do so then you are at your own risk.
Politics in Nigeria is full of corruption, embezzlement, and power in the wrong hands. As an individual, you can't play the game of politics. If you decide to be plain and trustworthy, how about those around you? How about your chambers? Your counsel of power? Are they loyalists? That's not possible. So you might have a good soul at the top with the mindset of changing things for the better. But the downlines are the real ones playing the dirty game.
As for me, I can't even dare pursue a career in politics. I don't know why but I don't want to involve myself in such things. Getting into politics must have your head thinking a lot about how to get over others, stepping on those below you so you can rise. So this won't allow me to go into politics. I don't have the zeal to pursue it as a career.
But in the long run, if I am fortunate to walk that path, i won't deny it. It's just that I would be careful not to allow power from politics to control me. Rather I have the mindset and determination to change what's wrong in the right way with the little power I am bestowed with.
I can't fight away all corruption and embezzlement, but I will make sure I am not an addition to the list. Power is indeed powerful, and if not well-tamed, it will take control over the owner and get them controlled.

Corruption is always around in many countries, you need to learn how to play dirt to succeed !
That’s it. Pure fact!
Politics is really dirty in all parts of the world, since the benefits of it generally go to the politicians themselves, and not to the population, that is already customary. Many times we ourselves choose our rulers very badly and generally they deceive us with their intentions.
I don't know why I don't like it when people say "politics is a dirty game," literally it is but if we keep running from it all in the name of it's a dirty game, who would now make the game clean?
I also so scared of politics but if I get an opportunity to occupy a position I wouldn't hesitate just like you. We can make a difference.
All you have said is true, the reality of Politics is different from the way it is defined in textbooks. It is a bloody battle and survival of the fittest, even the purest of heart end up getting tamed because they realise their self righteous spirit won't win them any election.
