Living The Life.
ADULTHOOD NA SCAM
The saying that adulthood is a scam, at first, might sound odd to the hearing, but when you get to that stage then you will realize what it takes to overcome it being a scam. It’s so easy to see a wealthy man ride in a nice car, living in a luxury home, and wish to be like him. But the question is “Can you pass through what he has passed through?”
If some people should pass through what others undergo before they can be who they are, I bet they won't survive it. We are all different and created differently. This is why we can't be equal in everything we do. Even siblings have it differently.
As an individual, I don't believe in the working class. I know some people make a living out of it, but I don't have the mindset to be one of them. I like to be independent and self-employed. Those who are working class would actually find a better way of life and adjust their livelihoods to fit their income. So it's not that it is a bad thing in any way.
To be a salary earner and live dependent on it is something I have tried my best to work against. Yet there are salary earners who are living fine too. Most salary earners, especially those at beginner levels in the private sector, are always finding it difficult to live their lives the way they want.
Salary earners who are having it good are not dependent on their salary alone, but they have other sources of income. This is what will aid their salary and give them the life they want. As a business owner, there are loads of challenges too. Financially, mentally, morally, and if you can’t withstand it there is no way you will survive the tides.
Cost of living.
I was with my brother yesterday and our discussion channeled towards the way we have to live our lives. He is a salary earner and a 9-5 worker. Not bad since a few years ago when the economy was still okay. His pay was quite okay but not enough to cater to his needs. He just has to go for his needs over his wants.
Now that the economy got worse, he had to seek greener pastures and then the source he got was Lagos. Living in Lagos is like living on money because you can always get a lot of opportunities compared to other states in the countryside. It is where the headquarters of most industries and companies are based. So if you know your way you will always find a way.
Since it's a money-centered state, this made a lot of people flock to the state to make money. But little did they know that the more money they earn the more they spend. The cost is living in Lagos is on a higher level compared to most states in the country.
Last week when I went to visit my brother in his apartment, I was thirsty and had to get a bag of water. He told me a bag of water is about 600 naira from a kiosk, but there is another that sells for 500 naira. Imagine the difference. Why did the first kiosk have to add 100 naira to it?
The same thing with getting an apartment. It's so difficult to get an apartment in Lagos. Apart from getting it costly, you also double your buckle before you can get one.
A friend of mine has been discussing with me how to get an apartment close to his work place in Lagos. I knew it wasn’t easy. Even if he could see an apartment the question is if it is affordable.
There are some apartments that are rented out for over 3 million nairas and the least you can find for a room self-contained is about 1 million excluding additional charges. If I should pay that amount from my salary then how do I feed, transport, and cater for other miscellaneous needs?
Anyways, that's for people living in Lagos and other states as salary earners. But for me, I just have to find a square through different sources of hustle. I went to visit Mum a few weeks ago and she complained to me about how costly the retailers in our area were to hike the price of their goods. I responded that they won't stop because they realize how much they must have profited from it.
A good they bought last year maybe for 4000 naira per pack. Then they were unable to sell it for months. If that good should mistakenly add price from the wholesaler and the retailer didn’t buy new stock, they will also add price to the ones they have in stock. That is selling old stocks at the present price. The worst of it is that some of them won't even care if they are expired goods. All they focus on is the profit they want to make.
If only I could get back to those days as a child with zero worries and an empty mind, I will make sure I enjoy it to the fullest. Now I just have to face things head-on.
This afternoon I have been thinking about how to get through the costly data subscription. And I just can't do without it. So I have to make a choice and go for one. All of a sudden without prior notice the network providers just decided to increase the price of their tariffs. It’s really disappointing but we are left with no choice but to do it.
In conclusion
Someone once said “As a man you can't stop spending, just pray you don't stop earning“ Spending becomes inevitable, you just have to spend all day. There are some responsibilities you have to cater for. But so far you are still earning it won't be much of a burden.
The solution to the problem of cost of living is to make sure you don't have a single source of income. Don't put all eggs in one basket. Find a different source of income so as to meet up with your needs and wants.
This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in the hive-learners community for the Week 159 Edition 1 and the topic to be discussed is THE COST OF LIVING
The approach you have when you consider having several sources of income is a good idea, the same goes for Hive, we cannot only have Hive as the main source, different alternatives must be had, today there are few in terms of sites of this style, but there are still several.
I think that the current system in which we live, forces us to constantly borrow to have to work for life to pay those debts. The system is the one that is wrong, we must become self -sufficient, produce our own food, energy and resources, that is the solution to free itself from the system.
You are right. That’s why we need to have both sources of incomes. The passive and the active. We can’t be dependent on hive, though sustainable and reliable but we should go further.

If there’s any scam , Ponzi scheme or whatever you want to call it, it should be adulthood. Because nothing is easy, the system is rigged, the economy is not working and you’d now have to find money to give people you care for. It’s sad.
May Allah make it easy for us all.
Amin. It’s so sad. But we already found ourselves here. We have to adjust and adapt to the ways. Thanks for the contribution
That’s true
Your most welcome.
Suena como un muy buen consejo eso de tener varias fuentes de ingresos, aunque es una realidad que no todos podrían lograr, por varios factores, pero la idea es buena!

You have said it all.
Most people are always in a rush when it comes to moving to Lagos, they are not aware of how expensive it is to live in lagos. There are some places in Lagos where grown up men live together just to afford the apartment in the area and it might just be a room self contained.
No lie. Lagos life is just find somewhere to place your back till the next day. To get comfort, you have to earn big.
Exactly 💯
Thank God I'm not in Lagos. Omo..I off cap for those living in that luxurious city. Imagine a room self contained for 1 million, the one I got for 350k here is kind of huge for me but comparing both, I think I should be grateful while also doubling my hustle. Lol
Imagine how the poor will cope if we, as average citizens are trying to fit in with the exorbitant prices here and there. May God help us.
The least you can find ooo. 1 million 😂. You are enjoying in Ibadan. Here in Mowe a room that is okay should be around 170. But you can’t compare the environment. Live big earn big.
Is that per month?
Nop.. per annum
Wow, that isn't too bad, but I guess it depends on how much one earns, and how good of a life is possible by living there.

Sure 💯

It sounds like moving to Lagos isn't a good solution. If you are only existing there, but could instead be somewhere you are happier but have to do different work, which is better?
Be happy in the little. Staying where you can afford and work with little is quite better than uncomfortably working in a discomfort environment. Lagos is good. But for those who have the money.
