Life; All Is Vanity
One sure thing about life is the fact that we are all going to leave someday. But the mystery about it is that we can't tell when the time would be?? Is it now? Or in years to come? No one can tell.
The fate or destiny we have. Sometimes when we see someone close to us leave the world, we feel the pain, sadness, and agony that comes from losing someone so dear; we can't tell the position such a person is in at that moment. For a couple of days, we still have that pain engraved deep within us. But in a matter of time, we tend to forget about it all, not until another one strikes.
That's life, we live on three things that make life a place to be. Hope, death, and forgetfulness. These three things are one of the keys that make life worth living. If not for hopes, what do we want to pursue in life? Despite the struggles, the joy, the pains, we still crave more. We try to keep up with our dreams, we make plans, set targets, and a lot more.
Only if we know that the plans we are making won’t be ours to accomplish. That's where death comes in. If there were no death, then tell me how filled life would have been. But when we lose some people, it keeps us in check, reminds us about how temporary this abode can be.
Forgetfulness comes into play in almost every aspect of our existence. This is why a pregnant woman, despite the pains from labour, still wishes to give birth to more. This is why we can live on despite the pains we had from losing someone so dear to us, this is why we could accept others even after the heavy mistakes they have made.
One day, I boarded a bus from Ketu garage to Mowe. It was a garage bus, so we all had to pay before the bus took off. We were onboarding one after the other. At some point, the bus was almost full, but we left with just one more passenger. So this bus won't take off without this passenger.
After some minutes of waiting, someone came in, and the bus took off. I was the third person to get in, and the total passengers was about 16. The journey began.
When we got halfway. I heard someone say, “It's okay, driver, I am dropping.” Ooh, it was the last person who entered. She became the first person to arrive at her destination.
The bus continued, and we stopped at different bus stops. People dropped, and some others also joined. Among all of us who took off from the garage, I was the only one left in the bus that stopped at the last bus stop where everyone alighted.
Then the thoughts about life came to me instantly. Life was the bus, and we are all like passengers; the driver is God, and the bus conductor is death. Once he called the bus stop, and it's your time, you are left with no choice but to get off. It doesn’t matter how much you paid, or how long you’ve stayed, or maybe your sitting position.
Once it’s time, it’s time. There is no game to that. Life doesn't care, so it’s best we just try as much to live it to the best we can. Enjoy the happy moments and embrace the sorrowful ones because, in the end, nothing lasts forever in this world.
Awwwn! What a beautiful and thoughtful analogy. Comparing life to a bus ride with passengers really puts things in perspective.
Indeed, death is no respecter of class, position, or even age. We just have to live to the fullest while we can.
This is a very strong reflection. life truly is unpredictable, and no one knows when their stop will come. We all have to live intentionally, cherish our moments, and never take time for granted.
