Financial Literacy; A Freedom Or A Chain To Live A Good Life

avatar

Everyone surely wants to live a good life, everyone wants to have the best livelihood, and they want to live their dreams. But accomplishing it is really not a matter to joke with. If you want to live the life of your dreams then the best way to go about it is to have money. With money then you can at least get what you want.

I remember when I was in a tertiary institution, my first year was a tough one. Maybe I should say I felt what it takes to live in a struggle. I fed from hand to mouth, skipped meals, and went days with just water alone. I realized the importance of living at home and fed me three square meals.

I was on the lookout to earn something, so at least I could live better compared to the way I lived then. I felt like starting up something, maybe a business, but where is the capital? If I had the capital then I wouldn’t be in the struggle I was. So I felt I should opt for some petty jobs. But if I should also do that, I won't have time to concentrate on my academics.

In the end, I later focused on my studies and managing the little funds that came my way. Not until my third year that I got to taste what it's like to have financial freedom. I had the opportunity to earn remotely. It became an eye-opener for me. But there was a sacrifice I had to pay.

It's either I fully concentrate on my studies or I divert and then learn how to go about financial literacy. I need to learn how to make money so that at least I can give myself a better lifestyle at the expense of not fully concentrating on my studies. It's a choice and a decision I have to make.

I kickstarted the journey, and then gradually I started earning and was able to financially support myself. I had a taste of what the freedom of finance was and I realized it was worth the sacrifice on my end. Since then I have had a bigger picture of my life, envisioning bigger dreams in the future and gradually taking steps towards accomplishing them.

To date, in a country full of chaos, inflation, corruption, and unemployment, I have been paddling my canoe across, and I pray to get to the shore safely. That's just what it takes to be financially free.

The problem is that a lot of people don’t want to work, but they want to earn. And how possible? Since I have been financially literate, I have dedicated my time and attention just to making people understand what it takes to be financially free through financial literacy. But a lot of them aren’t ready. Only a few who are determined will go ahead and give their best.

In conclusion, financial literacy is not something that can be forced upon people, this is because acquiring those skills will always come with a price. Only those who are willing to pay for it will get it.

This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in the hive-learners community for the Week 167 Edition 2, and the topic to be discussed is FINANCIAL LITERACY.

Without sacrifice and wisdom we won't be able to put the financial knowledge we've learnt in place, so I agree with you that it's important to know have the knowledge and still be disciplined to implement it.

The problem is that a lot of people don’t want to work, but they want to earn.

And when they illegally earn the money, they end up misusing it because they didn't sweat for it and also lacks financial literacy...

You are so right. Acquiring financial literacy comes with a price and it's only those who are ready to take it would definitely do themselves a good favour. Learning financial literacy is very important because everything has to do with money in getting what we want.
