Coffee Time On The Farm…

Every day is always another new day, yet living as a farmer is just quite different from the normal daily lifestyle any other random individual can have. If you are a staff at work, there are times when you will be served something during break time. It might come as snacks, meals, or even coffee and drinks. At times it could come as tea too.

Sometimes I didn't know the difference between having tea and coffee. But with time I got to realize there is a difference but they are both beverages depending on your choice. I have taken tea on several occasions, especially times when I experienced a cold and had to take something hot, so I opted for warm tea.

So since my routine changed from being a student, and now a professional farmer, my lifestyle also changed drastically. There are times when I would just have to wake up as early as possible to attend to the needs of my livestock. And there are times when I would have my whole day relaxing. The worst part of it was days when I would have to work almost 12 hours nonstop on the farm giving me a little time to rest.

With all of these, different days come alongside different routines. Today I have a lot to do on the farm and I knew I would be having a long day of work. From draining the fish ponds, cleaning and washing where needed, topping up, feeding the fish, and then attending to some leftover plumbing work on the farm. It's gonna be a stressful day indeed.

One thing that made me choose not to eat any heavy or peppery dishes before working on the farm is that the nature of my job has me bending and standing most of the time. Imagine if I ate a heavy meal in the morning then I would have to bend inside the pond to wash or pack the fish for sorting and counting. Then I might have the food going to the wrong place in my body system.

So days like this when I have a long day of work, I just take water, not too much, just a normal amount. After which I can then take snacks for lunch and then eat something nice for dinner. I am always so hungry.

This morning I chose to go for coffee. Though there are rumors, not sure if it's true, because it's not working for me, it is said that when you drink coffee at night time, you have difficulty sleeping, so most times it keeps you up. But as for me, anytime I take coffee it's always the opposite, I sleep off like a log of wood. So since then, I don't even bother taking it at night so I won’t sleep. I just take it whenever I crave it.

Maybe it's because of the type of coffee I drink. We have different makers, but I think I prefer to take “Nescafe 3 in 1” coffee powder. It has little content of sugar and some milk in it and not just ordinary coffee.

I have a lot to do on the farm as usual, the time I have for rest is while I change the pond water after draining it. Though I can have my coffee indoors, I choose to have it on the farm so I can monitor the water level and avoid overflowing of water. Then I sip the coffee down my throat.

Hot or Cold Mug of Coffee?

This is typically depending on the weather and the time I am having it. In the morning I prefer to drink cold coffee because I would be dealing with my body inside the water till the end of the day. And for noon time I like to take it hot. It's mostly all about my preference and how available the resources are to me.

Coffee after bath??

That sounds so interesting. But I never thought I had one before. But I would give it a trial someday when I wouldn't be on full-time work on the farm. So after bathing I can just take a cup of coffee and move on with life.

It’s the same Nescafé we have in Ghana also. But we also have other brands like cowbell coffee and the likes.

Hot coffee in the morning is the great choice. This is recalling me when my father stock this Nescafe Coffee, I brewed it almost every day.

When I take coffee, my eyes are wide opened like a fluorescent lamp. Lol
Having coffee at night is something I eventually stopped taking as it makes me sleep late and won't need to cover up with the 8 hours of sleep. Imagine drinking coffee at night, then force myself to sleep at 1 am and still wake up at 5 am. Not a healthy lifestyle advice 😁

At the end you can tell you have an excuse to have coffee at any time.

I live on a farm and I also like to drink coffee after a long day at work.

It's amazing how coffee connects us
