Coding At An Early Stage.
One thing I regret about the education system of my country Nigeria is the lack of focus. We run an educational system where everyone has to be disciplined in different aspects, and different subjects, even till the early tertiary level.
It is somehow sad that we can’t have a similar level of assimilation, we can’t have the same understanding, and our ability to reciprocate what we were taught is always different.
Basically, to cut it short, we all have different talents and it’s most of the time obvious that even with those talents we also have different ways of specialization. So I feel this is what we should focus on in the students and then from there they can groom such a child towards an advanced way in that field. Before they grow older they would have mastered the art in that profession or field.
But here in Nigeria, our system will have a child whose talent is drawing, studying social science, integrated science, agriculture, and many other non-related subjects that in the end they end up getting confused about which path to follow except for the stronger ones who can withstand the odds and focus on their career path.
Children who are talented in tech should surely be groomed towards that path, they can be enrolled into tech school right from the early stage their talent is detected. Then furthermore they can move on to another level.
Should all kids enroll for tech at an early age?
To me, I won't go with this idea. I will give a case study from my life. I am not good in tech even though I have an elder brother who is fully into it. He started learning tech himself online, taking courses, and practicing full-time. That was just how he built interest in it.
No matter how hard I try to learn it, I can’t assimilate it. Even for the basics of it, I find it difficult, though I can't say if I were forced to learn and assimilate it, then I might not be left with a choice.
So if kids are to learn tech from an early stage, it’s a good thing and then it should just be the basics of it, it should just be like a foundation to getting to another level. Those who are fully interested in it can then move further and get advanced knowledge.
I have a younger brother who is also interested in coding right from his childhood. Now he is a teenager but still doesn't know the core basics of it. This is what I think we should work on. Getting to know those who are interested from those who are not. That’s the way it should be.
Coding is okay, but the reality is that we can't take coding as a full-time job or career path. There are some people who would use this so-called product of tech and also other backups.
In conclusion, if coding should be added to the syllabus of children from their early stage, then it should be either optional or just the basics.
This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in the hive-learners community for the Week 167 Edition 3, and the topic to be discussed is CODING AND TECH.

It's not just you that is battling with trying to understand this coding thing. I love it but I just don't understand it every time I give it a try.
I love your view on this, everyone should be trained based on what they are good at and not forced to do something simply because it is trending.
Even in the university, we have to also study general courses before moving to our various specialties along the line.
The basics of every child’s education matters so much and that’s where everything should start from.
This got me laughing so hard but the truth is that's the reality in this country.
We abandon the relevancy and face irrelevancy and that's why we are not growing as a Nation🤔
I don't know if skill acquisition is still a thing in basic education because during my time we learnt a lot of skills like crocheting, tailoring, cooking, hair making and the likes. If skill is still a thing at the basic level it will be beneficial if the Nigerian government will consider adding tech and coding to it. That way, the basic knowledge will grow with us.
